Why soundbite "interviews" are little to no good...they have Joe Nickell, Bob Larson, and a preacher. Nothing like balanced reporting...two on one.

They should have left the preacher out at least, so the other two could have had more time to hash things out...you'll notice that Joe had very little time to get his side across, his experience with other "exorcists", etc, while Larson was able to spew stuff without any time for a real cross-examination.

He did make a potential mistake though...he invited Nickell to one of his "exorcisms". Maybe Joe'll take him up on that.

It maybe would have helped, provided that Joe would have had the time to bring this stuff up, but other people have been keeping track of Bob.

Bob doesn't seem to care too much for the facts:

One time, he declared that the founders of the nation, like Thomas Jefferson, intended the nation to be Christian. A caller had a book of quotations and documents prepared for Bob, and began to quote a few choice commentaries from Jefferson's memoirs where he explained that the intent of the First Amendment was to prevent one religious persuasion to control the government. The Caller really laid it out, and Bob simply cut him off and commented "That doesn't prove anything...you can read all the quotes from all the anti-Christian authors you want...", completely ignoring the fact that it was a quote from Thomas Jefferson himself, one of the authors and signers of the Constitution!

It seems that Bob is not very honest.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Verbal debates against people who can just spew forth verbiage are a waste of time. You have a hard time convincing an audience that the person is full of shit, and you can never answer each point they vomit up.

Written debate > all other formats, imo.

Debates are about winning over the audience, not about presenting facts. That's why people like Stephen Jay Gould never accepted invites to debate creationists. No matter how many facts you have on your side, it's still possible to lose and then the public thinks the other side is right.

To be fair, ig. Joe was debating two preachers.

Bob Larson Ministries is the stuff my brother is involved in.

He does exorcisms.

Stop laughing. I'm serious.

Who's laughing; exorcisms are serious shit that get people killed or mentally maimed. The practice should be outlawed and it's practitioners locked up and charged with assault. Sorry about your brother, Val; I find that very sad, but that's the way it is.

Have no fear, those Bible-humpers will never debate anyone in a written event. They know that Joe Nickle, an inspiration of mine incidentally, would ream them out like diamond bit boring through a layer of sedimentary, dessicated faeces. Hell, they rarely show the balls to even come in here.
