Anyone remember this thread?

It looks like there may be something to it after all, though it's rather off base for the Zion Oil people, it's in the "Levant Basin".

The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that 122 trillion cubic feet of undiscovered, recoverable natural gas are in the Levant Basin Province in the eastern Mediterranean region, according to a new report.

The area includes the coastal areas near Israel, Lebanon and Syria.

Whoops. Looks like it's not just for Israel after all.

As expected, the Rapture/Prophecy wonks are getting excited over it, as well as the people who posted in the comments section of that news article I originally posted.

The Zion Oil people have a link to an interview with their founder.

Note when this discover was found, and note that those guys are only on their second well.

Note also that he admits that it doesn't "directly" help their cause.

SS: Do you think this discovery may have any direct relevance to what you expect to find in the Joseph and Asher license areas?

RR: There is no direct relevance to our exploration in terms of a continuation in a geological structure. Our expectation is unchanged – we are still very optimistic.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

Looks real. About gas, Wiki says:
The Tamar gas field is a natural gas field in the Mediterranean sea off the the coast of Israel, discovered in 2009. The gas field is located roughly 50 miles west of Haifa in waters 5,500 feet deep. The initial well, Tamar-1, was drilled to a total depth of 16,076 feet/5 000 meters. The deposits contains 6 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

Production is expected to begin in 2012.
