And now for a little bullshit:
Texas Caver Catches 65 lb Scorpion!

The Associated Press
Jun 24 2000 9:48PM ET

Western, Texas (AP) - Local Caver Bill Bentley caught an unbelievable 65 pound Scorpion during a camping trip and was captured on film by a friend with a digital camera! Experts believe that this is the largest Scorpion ever caught by man on record.

The amusing part is:
It is not known if there are any more giant Scorpions in the area, but they have been known to travel in packs of 3 to 4.

Now that's freaky!

I know for a fact that scorpions that size (and bigger) usually travel in packs of 3 to 4. I've encountered them outside the city many times in Guild Wars.

Then there's the rarely seen* Sea Scorpion. This one is from a 2003 BBC documentary on prehistoric life.

Another kind of giant scorpion is the Lancia Scorpion, usually found in Italy and sometimes in groups. They're actually very fun-loving creatures though the cost of maintaining them can be hideous:

The world's largest scorpion is Heterometrus swammerdami.

I had thought that it was the Emperor scorp (Pandinus imperator), a commonly kept pet and one that hit me on the right thumb some years back. But to be on the safe side, I looked it up.

Both of these marvelously freaky critters are African.

Heh....

Sea scorps came in many differing shapes and sizes; some of them big enough to munch the guy up like a pork chop. In the Cambrian, when there was nothing on land except dirt, some of them invaded the land and scavenged along the shoreline on whatever flotsam contained protein. They prospered and were to become the first terrestrial animals.

They continued to prosper for 500 million years or so, as can be seen in this photo taken outside the Garden of Eden, just after the Fall.
