Three tropical storms have for several days been hovering in an arc north of Luzon. One is to the north-west, sitting in the South China Sea between Baguio and Hong Kong. Another has been about due north, but has recently been breaking up against Taiwan's east coast. The third has been to the north-east of Luzon, and now has become a full-fledged typhoon, eye and all, and is headed toward Japan's Ryukyu islands.

The one that most concerns me is the one to the north-west. It was predicted to hit China, but has just been sitting comfy in the South China Sea and slowly growing. I noticed just now in an animation that it seems to be lurching back towards Luzon, and Baguio.

The weather prophets at the Philippine's PAGASA seem either unaware of this change of direction, or are simply smarter than I am, and see it as a feint, an attempt by the storm to psyche them out. These storms are sneaky.

If an unpredicted typhoon does hit here in the next day or, remember that you read about it here first!

We've got one playing pussyfoot with the NC coast. They say it will be a very near miss, but I've seen a lot of hurricanes. They ain't reliable.

The only reason those asshole storms usually follow the rules laid down by meteorologists is to set people up for major and very unpleasant surprises.
