De. Kent Hovind was jailed November 2, 2006, after being convicted in
Pensacola, Florida. His wife "Jo" was released on bail. Sentencing is
set for January 2007. Countless prisoners of conviction have been
jailed though the years. Remember Nelson Mandella? He emerged from
prison to rule his nation. Remember the Apostle Paul? Dr. Hovind is a
prisoner of conscience: a politcal prisoner. Pray for him.

Good thing they jailed him right away. He's a Rapture risk.

What gets me is it looks like no one else picked up the IRS/Dr.Doofus story. The only news source has been the Pensicola site. You'd think the whole world would enjoy a big laugh with this one.

That's weird, no shit! I wonder what accounts for that. I know that reporters and editors read one another's stories. Was it a judgement by corporate-minded media editors that such a story wouldn't be good for advertising revenue? Or that it simply wasn't "newsworthy"? Or are the editors under pressure from the corporate home office to quash bad news about fundies?

OY, if you're reading this: Didn't you mention you'd been a newspaper editor? If so, what's your insider's take on why this big story is so small outside its local area?

I find myself not a little shocked that Hovind didn't fight this tooth and nail. Whatever else he might be, he's always been a scrapper and I've given him top marks for that.

Must be, he's lost his stuff. Or there's more going on than meets the eye... Some sort of deal in the works, perhaps?

Perhaps the reason other news organizations didn't pick up on the story is that no one besides those of us who are fighting against this creationist nut ball cares.

Most of the people I associate with at work or in general, who are not skeptics, even know who he is…

I think you may have hit the nail on the head, Kil. Seems the only newsy items the media is interested in reporting about is the Creation vs. Evolution textbook crapola. We skeptics naturally focus in on zipperheads like Hovind, especially when their rhetoric is so...so out there. Maybe most would never see/hear him/his site, and pay no attention at all.

Maybe Hovind found, with the charges and court appearance, that he was facing HIS judgement day earlier than expected (you know, the IRS does have their god-like image that proceeds them).
No doubt Hovind felt he was living in an ivory tower (more like leaning Tower of Piza!...it just fell over yesterday!)

He's in the jail house now.
He's in the jailhouse now....
I told him over again,
To quit drinkin' whiskey,
Stay 'way from that gin....
He's in the jailhouse now.

Well, looks like this time, they flat got him. He's on the inside lookin' out.

Creationist Dr. Dino goes to jail
Kent "Dr. Dino" Hovind, founder of Creation Science Evangelism and the Dinosaur Adventure Land creationist theme park in Florida ("where Dinosaurs and the Bible meet!"), and his wife face more than 200 years in jail for tax fraud. (Previous post with background here.) Yesterday, Dr. Dino was found guilty on 58 counts, including not paying an $845,000 employee-related tax bill. From the Pensacola News Journal:
A link in the article goes to the newspaper story. They let his wife, also guilty, go until sentencing, but our Kent got sent directly to the slam, and wasn't even allowed to collect 200 dollars. It is concievable that he be in there forever -- what a marvelous opportunity to start a Creationist stronghold! He will have a congregation, a following, that can't get away from him!

I've little doubt that he'll wind up in Club Fed.

There's a great link at the Boing-Boing site to a Scientific American article on "15 Answers to Creationist Nonsense".....
http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?articleID=000D4FEC-7D5B-1D07-8E49809EC588EEDF

....which brings to mind, for the now striped-suited babbling Dr. Dino, there should be a new article in next month's "You and the IRS" called "15 Answers to Kent Hovind's Nonsense".

Just imagine what his cellmate will have to go through...

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Doctor Kent Hovind, photographed

Creationist Tax-cheat forcibly tattooed with 'Darwin's Revenge'
POSTED: 10:19 p.m. EST, November 4, 2006

Florida (AP) -- An inmate accused of forcibly tattooing a deceased British scientist's name onto his critic's forehead in a Florida jail was the scientist's great-great-grand-nephew, a family friend said.

Jared "Big Bubba" Simmons, 22, is a lateral descendant of Charles "Robert" Darwin, family friend and spokesman Terry Ellis told the Pensacola News Journal newspaper. He said he did not believe they knew each other well.

Simmons, 22, who is awaiting trial on burglary and forced sodomy charges at Escambia County Jail in Florida has been charged with battery and accused of tattooing "DARWIN'S REVENGE" across Kent Hovind's forehead.

Simmons told jail officials the attack was in revenge, according to an affidavit.

More news:

Dinosaur Descendants to Sue "Dr. Dino"

November 4, 2006, Pensacola, Florida

Already jailed while awaiting sentencing on multiple Federal tax convictions, Kent ("Dr. Dino") Hovind now has further legal trouble to worry about. This time, he's facing action in civil court.

Attorney Melvin Birdi, who says he represents the estates of several extinct Dinosaur species, has announced that he will be seeking damages from Hovind for "Impugning and defaming the good name of Dinosaurs and their intellectual property, by associating them with bizarre modern mythical beliefs, including the use of the name 'Dinosaur Adventure Land' for his cult theme park, and for using an abbreviated form of the Dinosaur name in his shameless self-promotion as 'Dr. Dino.'"

Birdi says he will seek damages of five million dollars on behalf of his clients. Mr. Birdi identified his clients only in general terms, as "Various members of the biological Class, Aves."

"My clients and I fully expect to win in court," Birdi stated. "If, after winning the suit, it becomes apparent that Mister -- excuse me, 'Doctor' -- Hovind does not have enough money stashed about to pay us the five million dollars, then we would consider taking deed to his theme park in lieu of such payment, and making it into a place of rest and recreation for my clients."

Attorney Birdi smiled and added, "Hovind's so-called 'Dinosaur Adventure Land' has always been 'for the birds' in a colloquial sense. Soon it may become a place for the birds in a real sense."

Ok, I think that maybe it's time to consider taking the chainsaw of natural selection out on these guys. Why?

Check out the CSE Blogs page

Note the first comment:

So here we may be seeing the real reason Dr. Hovind is jailed.

So the judge, jury and prosecution unwittingly are instruments of God to

way home. Praise God!
