I'm skeptical about Skeptic Friends

I'm beginning to think that Skeptic Friends is owned and operated, except for some ‘heartfelt “window dressing” folk', by some freakin' religious authority and this place is just for ‘keepin' an eye' on skeptics.

Heck, moi ‘tis 99.99% sure that Free Thought Radio is Christie owned.
Crap, just listen to it; sure they read scriptures, verbatim, with a sarcastic vocal tone BUT, and it's a mighty big BUT, THEY READ SCRIPTURES MOST OFTEN.
This is nothing more than “Preaching to the 'heathens'” and is 100% inline with church doctrine.

Geeeeeeeeee, people sayin' one thing and doing the other, ain't that unusual?
[That's a sarcastic statement, if you had any doubt]

Your message content is obscured by your delivery. It's difficult to take you seriously.

quč? Try for coherency next time.

But let me venture an interpretation of what you wrote:
You didn't like the reception of your extremely annoying videos (extremely annoying not by the content itself, but mainly due to the extremely annoying delivery of the content). So therefore the people on this board must not be 'true skeptics'.

Try something constructive, like actually working on the way you deliver your message.

First, write with less "flair." Second, address people correctly, by their name or nick, not your version of it. This isn't a middle school debate club. Third post to the appropriate forum. The way you deliver your posts lends itself to humor section, and maybe the conspiracy theory.

Torquemadas? You expect peeople to treat you with anything lesss then ridicule when you are so over the top?

I tried listening to Freethought Radio about 2.5 years ago when I first heard about it. I found most of it completely unbearable, not because I suspected that they were Christians in disguise, but because

1.) The sarcastic tone is so often just plain mean and in my opinion does not further the causes of humanism. I'm not interested in attacks on religion in the spirit of a sort of Rationalist fundamentalism. I'm interested in intelligent and informed attacks on the inhumane behavior of fundamentalists (and anyone else who behaves inhumanely).

2.) the production was so amateurish. You couldn't tell if they were trying to be funny or serious oftentimes, and if it was supposed to be funny, it just wasn't that funny, and it made me cringe to think they were serious. I think this is possibly the reaction you were getting from people on this forum in regards to the Amenhotep video.

I'm not sure I understand the message, here. Are you saying that because a lot of us are familiar, more so than many religious folk, with the Bibble that this is another religious site, but with a cloaking device?

That's a new one. We've been called a lot of things by a lot of people, but never closet churchies; and those of us who are religious are anything but in the closet.

What's wrong with an atheist reading the Scriptures? To be a skeptic, one needs to know what he's talking about before he runs his mouth, rather than go through all that fuss and bother, not to mention the embarrassment, of finding out afterward.

I'm beginning to think you are some patient AWOL from a locked phychiatrical institution.
Your lack of communication skills certainly indicate it. You seem more interested in blaring out your view of The Truth, rather than listening to our feedback, constructive or otherwise.

Oh, isn't that cute?

Many of us didn't like Hershman's sense of humor (or at least his production values), nor did we bow down to his attempted logic, so he puffs out his lower lip, stamps his wittle feet, and tosses out the worst insult he can think of: you're not really skeptics, you're really nasty, mean ol' Christians.

The horror!

(That's a sarcastic statement, if you had any doubt.)

Well... it could also be that his "art" is so Dadaist that by failing to appreciate it as it was intended, we signal to him that we're exactly what he is making a "parody" of, and thus beneath contempt. That could explain why, this morning, when I first saw his post, it actually said something about a parody, but now has been edited and that word (and the sentence it was in) removed. Perhaps he was trying to clue us into his little joke, but then later remembered that if people need the punchline explained to them, they're not the kind of people he wants to associate with in the first place.

Either way, it seems pretty clear that he wants nothing to do with us any longer, and so I doubt he'll be back.

I tried to stay off TOR's threads but when he starts calling me (and 'us') a closet Christian, the gloves are off...

No, no, no. The gloves are on! I can see only one possible, reasonable response to the insanity given by people like TOR, and that is a lobotomy performed on him. That means medical equipment, and that means we'll have to put on those sweaty, but FDA compliant, latex medical gloves.

Isn't that just the best feeling. You slide them on. They hug your hands. Oooh. Aaaah. You feel a bit sweaty...

I'm not really sure why I'm writing this, but it seems just as intellectually stimulating as TOR's posts.

It's been less than two days, but I'm claiming a successful prediction.
