I forget who pointed it out first, elsewhere, but it really is amazing to see how the liberals are all conservative on this issue, wanting to get back to the climate of 100 years ago (or more), while Bill and his ilk are playing the role of the super-indulgent hippie parents, saying, "let the climate do what it wants, man, it ain't hurtin' anyone." Bill is even fawning over a French Socialist, forcryingoutloud. Next thing we know, he'll be wearing a beret and quoting Kerouac.

The best he can do is cite one or two "dissenters" who are quoted (probably misquoted) in obviously bias political publications.

Typical MMGW theorist, dismiss any opposing scientist who does not tow the MMGW line with nothing but a handwave and then pound your chest as a champion of science. What a clown.

Oh, the irony. Bill, I take it that if I touted articles by the world's greatest scientists re the realities of the Big Bang and evolution, you'd jump on board, no?

C'mon guys... Billy is a political operative. He's like a less intelligent, less articulate, MAnn Coultergeist.

He is just out doing what his political masters at his church have told him to do.

He doesn't even realize it, but he is practicing THE BIG LIE as developed by good old Adolf Hitler.

He completely refuses to EVER engage in a debate over actual evidence (no matter what he is blathering about at the time, evolution, evil liberals, climate change, etc).

He is participating in an organized grass roots political campaign. This is evident by the timing of his trolling here on this forum. When GA evolution stickers and the Dover trial are a topic in the media, he rants about evolution. When global warming is big news, he rants about global warming.

This guy is fucking predictable. In a couple weeks he'll fall off our radar again, until one of his political bosses (probably disguised as a preist) gives him another task. Then he'll be back spreading the next BIG LIE.

There is no real point in trying to talk to Billy, because he isn't here for such things. He is here to preach the good word and try to create false controversy on issues that his political movement need to discredit.

Ignorance is preferable to error; and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing, than he who believes what is wrong.

Not if he can find even one “renown scientist” to support his opposition.

The truth is, there is always minority opposition among scientists. There isn't a theory out there that has every single scientist onboard. And, Allegre may be right. However he is outside of the scientific consensus. And that's fine.

The question is do we act on the consensus or do nothing based on the minority view? The stakes are high. Personally, I'd rather err on the side of caution and go with the consensus until (and if ever) there is enough evidence support Allegre's view. It's as simple as that…

I dunno. Bill kind of reminds me of Nero… He will still be playing his tune as the place burns down…

Gotta give Bill credit for one thing: A post by Bill gets almost as much attention as would one by Richard Dawkins. For opposite reasons.

I just realized that Bill gave us an article about an article in a weekly newspaper, an article about a TV show, and an article about a documentary film (that apparently makes idiotic claims). None of the news items Bill read are about anything being published in places known for their scholarship (especially since the BBC will seemingly air anything that it thinks its audience will enjoy).

On the upside, Bill appears to have enough sense to not cite Steve "JunkScience" Milloy at us.

Here you go Bill a list of other scientist who are skeptical of the consensus opinion concerning mans effect on global warming. For your next thread.

edited for spelling. must be time to go to bed.

Yup, at least two of them are conservative publications. (One is more of a tabloid.) But it is true about Allegre even though he is retired and has been for years…

Bill has refused to comment about err on the side of caution.

If there was a 50-50% chance that GW was man made, then I'd rather err on the side of caution and do something about it. (I already am, as I'm investigating conversions of my car from petrol to ethanol. I'm also politically active to decrease CO2)

In this case, the report in the other thread said the certainty of the data collected is 90%. So even if the the odds is 10-1 against him, Robb Bill don't give a shit that he's likely destroying the climate as long as he can keep in living as he always have.

Even Pat Robertson now says:
quote:
But I tell you stay in doors ladies and gentleman. Stay cool. Get fans or whatever. And the poor, they need emergency fans and ice to cool down — the number of people dead. I have not been one who believed in the global warming. But I tell you, they are making a convert out of me as these blistering summers. They have broken heat records in a number of cities already this year and broken all-time records and it is getting hotter and the ice caps are melting and there is a build up of carbon dioxide in the air. We really need to address the burning of fossil fuels. If we are contributing to the destruction of the planet we need to do [something] about it.
Get with the program, Bill!
