It's the end of an era, folks. The Weekly World News is terminating its print edition.

Well shoot!

As you can probably guess by my avatar, I am a big fan of the Weekly World News. And I still buy it now and then. But the main thing was at the supermarket checkout. How empty an experience that will be now. How totally drab.

While even the sleaziest of tabloids other than the Weekly World News is usually weighted down by at least a passing relationship with facts, the Weekly World News stands out as being completely unencumbered by such things. And that made it the best of all of them.

My secret wish is to write for them.

Oh well…

I will continue to visit the online version regularly.

Unfortunately, I can't find the BBC radio show on which I first heard the news. Some U.S. business reporter characterized the WWN as "satire for those who never graduated high school," or words to that effect, in answer to a question about whether WWN was more lampoon than satire.

I grieve. WWN was a favorite of mine and it's passing means that They have won another round.

Everybody loves The Onion, but it was the Weekly World News who showed them how it was done.

Nice work, marf.

News from my world: I just got back from a vacation to Maine with my girlfriend and made a short video of our trip. (Just posting it because I know how exciting vacation videos are for those not involved.) Enjoy.

I'll take as many vacations-by-proxy as I can get, H., seeing as I don't get any of my own anymore. Thanks.

If anyone else is curious, the SFN's most-popular thread to date appears to be Owl on the Dollar Bill... with over 14,240 views as of this writing.

Lots of Google hits from searches for "owl dollar bill" and similar sets of words.
