Days after bomb material was found and disarmed in two cars in London, a burning SUV was driven by two "Asian looking" men into the entrance of the Glasgow airport terminal, causing considerable damage, and causing both panic and fury amongst bystanders. One of the two men in the SUV is reported to have doused himself with gasoline, set himself ablaze, then fought police. The two men were arrested at the scene, with the self-immolated fellow dying soon afterward.

Burning Jeep Cherokee at Glasgow airport.

The UK has put itself on its highest state of terror alert.

For some reason, we don't seem to have any, or many, active Brits here, but I was hoping this posting would flush out one or two to offer their opinions about what's going on over there with the UK and its Muslims. Are things really out of control?

A lady I work with, who is from Glasgow, says there is a sizable Asian population there that is discontent in general. She also says that she would be suprised to learn that this specific incident is related to al-qaeda or the like. Probably some home grown malcontents.

That is also my outsider's impression of the UK terrorism situation. Mainly home-grown for the most part, with only examples for emulation and ideological inspiration coming from Al Quaeda and other outside Jihadist groups.

I haven't heard of persecution of Muslims in the UK being so bad as to either "justify" or by itself ignite this kind of suicidal religious madness. The heyday of "Paki-bashing," I believe, was decades ago. What the Hell is going on in the UK's mosques?

Amature and not very scary. Emulation or idiocy?

What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell

Not on a WTC scale, but pretty damned scary. Both emulation and idiocy.

That people have the ability to intentionally douse themselves with gasoline and set themselves on fire is very damn scary. And it certainly isn't idiocy.

If Jerome were in that airport lobby when that vehicle crashed the door, scared would have been an understatement for what he would have felt.

It is going to get scarier!

"This is reminiscent of the warnings and intelligence we were getting in the summer of 2001," the official told ABCNews.com."

Scared into submission.

Yeah, the 10th time we've had info reminiscent of summer 2001...

But seriously, "Asian looking?" way to narrow it down to one half the worlds population.

I think in Britain the term asian refers to middle eastern.

Ahh, I was making the prediction as it would be a good reason for starting the next war. I do not think that America should be in the middle east at all. Thanks for your assumptions; again.

Another in the long list of examples of assuming what one means and arguing against that assumption.
