Elseya irwini is a rare, odd turtle.

This aquatic turtle lives in only one river in Australia. Discovered by the late Steve Irwin and his father, it's a species that is mainly made up of adult females. Both males and juveniles are scarce. Also, they are the largest of Australia's turtles.

Perhaps oddest of all, the turtle has a gill-like structure within its cloaca that allows it to extract oxygen by "breathing" in water through their anuses.

I'm not a herp-lover like Filthy, but even I think these are pretty critters:

Actually quite a few turtles do that when they're hibernating. But with my IBS it gives me the squirms just thinking about constantly 'breathing by enema'.

Thanks for that, I hadn't known. I think I'll stick to the beer enemas, thank you. (Special attachment comes with the beer bong.)
