We would like to create a "Skeptic's Calendar" for 2005 (at least). To do so, we need topical images for 12 months, with perhaps some text, and we'd like your help.

We'd like the ideas to be humorous, and have something to do with their associated month. Too much detail in the images is going to be impossible this year, but keep your ideas in mind for next year, too.

So far, we've got ideas for:

February: An image of Darwin (born in February) in boxing gloves, beating the snot out of the Bible (or at least Genesis).

April: An image of Benny Hinn's tax returns.

July: The famous Neil Armstrong image, doctored up with light booms and other movie-set equipment, with the caption "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for conspiracy theories."

December: A manger scene with aliens.

Personally, I'd like to see more ideas without religious implications, but I know that'll be difficult.

A Ouija board for either Oct with a caption "Permanently out of Order" or, as someone said, have it in November predicting A Kerry win or something like that, though it'd be also a year off as well as wrong.

> Good luck with that fuckwit. And Reynold, fucking run, and don't stop.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

I think it should be someone like Hovind instead of the Bible.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Some other information to perhaps seed some ideas:

In March, Sarah Goode and others were arrested and charged with witchcraft in Salem.
In May, there was the Scopes trial.
In June, the SCOTUS declared it unconstitutional to enforce saying the Pledge of Allegiance.
In August, George Washington became a Master Mason.
In September, the final draft of the U.S. Constitution was signed.

Just a suggestion. How about Darwin standing, arms extended forward with his palms up, and head slightly tilted to on side (typical jesus pose). With the caption, "Now show me your evidence for a creation model." And a note " ... 145 years later we are still waiting."

November: An image of Darwin contemplating Bush's head.

On edit, scratch Darwin. Make it: James Randi contemplating Bush's head.

April: An image of the allosaur/human hoax. That gem deserves a little temporary immortality!

January: The founding fathers gathered together around a television set watching the Bush inauguration with the Constitution clearly visible and clearly amended (say lots of red ink).

How 'bout images of Piltdown Man and Archeoraptor? Both were frauds debunked by skeptical scientists rather than creationists, who often try to take the credit. The peccary tooth miscalled, very briefly, 'Nebraska Man' could be another.

Yet another: A portrate of Madam Cleo, John Edward, or another of the ilk.

And perhaps a phrenologist's chart.

Then, there's one of my personal heros, who was anything but a fraud in spite of his skillful manipulation of the public perceptions: Harry Houdini.

I have an idea! How about if someone volunteers to check what happened on certain dates and keep track, listing them by the month day and year… Like Carl Sagans Birthday and Houdini's, and the day the Psychic Friends Network filed for bankruptcy, all the stuff in the above posts, and more of that sort of thing.

Who knows, maybe there will be a free calendar for the willing vict, ummmm, volunteer…

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

How about the day of the moon landing? Could say something like:

Moon landinghoax: July 20

I would be careful about using birthday though. I mean sure people like Randi and Sagan, but too many and it just becomes dull. I would like to see a lot more dates about claims such as UFO, ghosts, etc.
