While I was looking for information on Haldane's Dilemma (in this thread) it was time to visit Talk.Origins...

Since I'm not reading that site on a regular basis, I typed:

www.talkorigin.org without the 's' in 'origins'

That URL has been bought by "Jesus Christ Saves Ministries" and redirects to their website at http://jcsm.org/

It seems that Christians are not below prostituting their integrity by deception in order to sell their message about Jesus. And make a buck doing it (yes, there are plenty of ads on that page).

What they don't seem to realise it that people like me, who ended up there while looking for Talk.Origins, will be mightily pissed off by having Jesus forced up my face while I was looking for something that in their eyes is the opposite.

As if I'm not enough antagonistic against organised Christianity already, they are now adding fuel to the flames rather than cooling it off with water, foam, and CO2...

I'm really not surprised though, more and more Christians are displaying moral bankruptcy. Disingenuous tricks, misrepresentations, and sometimes even bald-faced lies to sell a message they claim as Truth that should be able to stand on its own.
My distaste for churches and ministries grow each day, and I'm slowly getting more and more convinced that organised religion, and Christianity (and Islam) in particular are a menace to society and a threat to human civilisation.

I left them a "fan" mail where I in no uncertain terms stated my opinion about their stunt. If you go there, and decide to contact them to leave feedback, remember to scroll down at least a page to get past all the ads and shit to get to the feed-back form.

Now that I've gotten that out of my chest, I think I'll have a coffee. Sorry about my rant.

Indeed! Menaces to society. Pedophiles, rapists, drug pushers, thieves, and now Christians who would go so far as to exploit a common url misspelling.

Maybe we should just herd them all over the edge of a cliff. Those dangerous lunatics!

Seriously, Dr. Mabuse, you sound like your foaming at the mouth.

I should also note that it's interesting no one seems upset that pornagraphers do this contantly. If you want to complain something, complain about the people pushing real moral filth into the faces of little kids.

How about complaining about both? To some, both are the same in the level of moral filth.

But I forget, your version of morality is more right, right?

I predict that the response will be that I support pornography.

yes pleco, that's EXACTLY what my response is going to be.

(that was sarcasm)

I don't mind the complaint - it's just the frothy-mouthed part that amuses me.

Amuses you? Or upsets you? Because you didn't come across with a great deal of mirth.

And it is stupid that a christian organization would stoop to such a disingenuous trick because evolution has nothing to do with christianity. That they even consider evolution an evil that needs to be fought does more to illustrate the barbarity of their faith than a thousand anti-christian websites could manage.

Funny, isn't it, how people who claim to be spreading The Truth are so ready to use deception to do so?

People use this kind of argument now and then. It's the old "why are you wasting time/resources/emotional input/whatever on THIS when you could be spending more worthwile time/resources/emotional input/whatever on THAT (THAT which is SO much more important). There are two (or more?) problems with this argument:
1) You have no idea how much time the other person is spending on THAT.
2) If people only spent time on THAT, then we would have very few discussions on this planet. We would have one at a time, actually. And it would not be about pornographers using certain web-addresses, any more than it would be about christians using certain web-addresses.

I'm trying to remember all the times groups of organized pornographers professed their righteousness and claimed that being truthful was part of their tenet. As dishonest as it might be for the non-superstitious to hijack a typoed web address, those who would spread a belief in their Christian terrorist imaginary pal are dishonest and hypocritical. Sounds like a sin for the religious folks and just good business for anyone else.

Pornography, nasty, ick. Will you just look at that picture of the dead guy hanging there with nails through his hands! And verso, wouldn't you like to share your bookmark of the URL with that man doing something to the little pig?

Like my O'Reilly site that claims to be an Al Franken "official site".

You're right. It's easy to misspell Pentecostal, perhaps I should register www.pentacostal.com and redirect it to Hustler, or Private.
When I've done that, I promise I won't complain.

And I was very upset when I wanted to update my computer game "Wing Commander 4" and clicked "get update" in the game console and Explorer ended up at a porn-site. (It could have been one of the Descent-games, it's been a while so I don't remember exactly what game it was.)

And besides, if I had a grievance about a game, I wouldn't post that grievance here but in a game forum. This is a skeptics forum where we discuss evolution (and religion), which makes this an appropriate forum.

Edited to add:
Both spellings of pentecostal was aparently already taken.

I didn't scan that site thoroughly. Maybe it's another Landover Baptist?

Look...You shouldn't judge Christianity as a whole by some off the wall extremists who are not even using the Bible as there guide lines. I'm more than realistic enough to realize that there's some pretty loony "Christians" out there. But there are also some pretty wacky skeptics, and those are NOT the people that I look at to get my viewpoint of Skeptics as a whole. Please don't be naive enough to think that that brand of Christian is the mainstream. Don't let some crazy people, with crazier ideas be the represenative for me, and my fellow Christians.

Indeed, if we consider the unblushing promises of reward and the staggering nature of the rewards promised in the Gospels, it would seem that Our Lord finds our desire, not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.-- C.S. Lewis
