Ah Christians, those down-trodden members of a sorely persecuted minority. Surely they deserve better. They should receive nothing but praise; no dissenting word, no ridicule, no insults aimed at their clay-footed god from the burgeoning hoard of heresy-besotted atheists ravening at every church-house door. Yeah, right!
Top Ten Instances of Christian Bashing in America, 2008
Contact: Dr. Gary Cass, Christian Anti-Defamation Commission, 866-508-2232

VISTA Calif., Jan. 5 /Christian Newswire/ -- The Christian Anti-Defamation Commission (CADC) has prepared a Top Ten list of the most egregious acts of Christian Bashing in American in 2008. Every day in America serious Christians face increasing hostility at work, school, and in the culture because they stand for their faith and values.

"It is time for the Christian bashing to stop and for Christians to no longer be treated like second-class citizens," said Dr. Gary Cass, Chairman and CEO of CADC. "Anti-Christian bigotry is real and growing. Those who engage in it should be exposed and called to account."

Yeah, PZ Myers talked about this too. He and his commentators do a good job of exposing the whiny hypocrosy of those idiots.

After all, it's not like anyone tried, and succeeded in, banning xian marriage.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

These incidents in this article are not persecution. American Christians are not persecuted. Look in the book of Acts or here: http://www.persecution.com/

I agree. The listed instances are almost all examples of mockery, at worst. (Some of the examples are just bullshit, like the claim that the State of Colorado has banned publication of the Bible.) The "Christian Anti-Defamation Commission" (who commissions these things?) apparently feels that freedom of expression itself persecutes Christians.

And note the "bonus" persecution instance.
BONUS INSTANCE: Senator Grassley's Abuse of Power

US Senator Grassley, a member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee, has demanded the financial records of a number of very prominent conservative, evangelical broadcast ministries. The demand was based on Grassley's concern that these ministries are not spending their contributions properly. Grassley has admitted his concerns were in part driven by media accounts.
So apparently the CADC feels that even criminal acts by widow-robbing televagelists are protected from investigation or prosecution!

I wonder if these things are worse than blending religion and politics all the time, or to promote religious pseudoscience in the classroom, or to have Mormons sponsor the anti-gaymarriage proposition. Christians in the USA seems to have it pretty good compared to other groups, especially the atheists and other non-religious people. Did they expect that people would just sit quietly while the Christians are promoting their stuff every chance they get? Did they expect that people would not ridicule the ridiculous?

It is noteworthy (and typical) that they pass the collection plate for everything.

RighWingWatch has more on them. It seems that one Gary Cass has his panties in a bind going clear up the crack of his scungy, old ass over some musical or other involving Prop 8 -- video posted on the site along with some more examples of sniveling -- also futile as well as redundant, the snivels as well as the posting of them.

All in all, the whole thing is pretty dismal. It's only saving grace is the entertainment value inherent in any futile, fascist statement. And these are the people that Obama is trying to mollify with his mistaken pick of the foul Rick Warren.

This one has to be the best:
INSTANCE #3: Barack Obama Defames Christianity

According to research into President Elect Obama's own statements about faith, and an examination of Obama's position on moral issues, CADC has determined that by any biblical and historic Christian standard, Barack Obama is not a Christian, although he claims he is a "devout Christian."
Leaving aside for the moment that it's hard to see this as "Christian bashing" or as an example of "be[ing treated like second-class citizens]", I'm skeptical that the Christian Anti-Defamation Commission has much authority in determining who is and who is not a Christian.

They have as much authority as to who is & isn't a Christian as I do -- none. The difference is that I don't care and they wish wish they had it. Wanna be a Christian, fine; have a cracker. But keep your superstition out of my face and the public schools and the government. You can teach & preach anything demented thing you like in your church and your living room.

I find Obaba's Christian faith disappointing, but I know that no one, however qualified, gets elected to any office without it.

Seems to me like #4 may actually be a legitimate complaint.

INSTANCE #4: Colorado Law Criminalizes the Bible

SB200, a Colorado state bill recently signed into law, criminalizes the Bible. Section 8 of the bill entitled "Publishing of discriminative matter forbidden" makes publishing the Bible illegal because it contains anti-homosexual passages. This is part of a larger effort to criminalize the expression of certain opinions and beliefs.

Check out the bill, the section starts on page 7. Seems to me that it is far overreaching, not allowing any business to produce pamphlets (any other forms) that have any kind of discrimination.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Heh, you have a point. But I seriously doubt if it'll shut any Bible factories down, nor will the ACLU pursue the matter.

See, this is the sort of mess the zealous get into when they get over-zealous. Excess in anything is never a good thing and more often than not, it leads to failure if not disaster. You'd think that by this time, we'd have that programed into our genes, but we don't and evolution is an idiot for not making it so. It probably would have saved a lot of human livers.

Except it's not any business. Clearly, the bill is intended to prevent hotels, restaurants and theme parks from hanging "whites only" signs (for example). But the first clause, which is aimed at any publication of any kind, is clearly unconstitutional. It says that a trailer-park owner cannot also run a website which says that French people suck.

However, the bill isn't an example of Christian bashing because Christians aren't the only people who discriminate against gays.

Actually, the bill in question just amends the prior law, changing a "which" to a "that" and adding "sexual orientation" to the list of groups against which it is illegal to discriminate. If the law hasn't already been found unconstitutional (there's probably at least one KKK member who owns a restaurant, hotel, park, etc. and who has given away racist pamphlets), then it's likely that nobody has been prosecuted under the first clause of the law. And according to the history of the law, it's been around since before 1920.

Really, the law would ban the Bible if (and only if) the Bible "is intended or calculated to discriminate or actually discriminates against" gays. Claiming that it does makes the alleged Christians who're claiming persecution rather odd, given Jesus' actual message.

I dunno, nor care. It would make little difference to his office, the rest of the Senate being what it is and will forever be.

I think he's Jewish, but don't know for sure. Maybe I'll look that up.

Yep, Jewish, although he doesn't seem to work at it very hard. He does, however, come off as a believer.
