A note about this poll: we have a limited number of possible responses in our poll software, so it is impossible for us to include all of the dozens of parties of every size and ideology that are active (or inactive) in the U.S. today. Please make liberal (haha!) use of the "Other" response as a means of saying "none of the above," and if you feel like it, leave a note here about the party that is a "best match" for you. I attempted to list the seven most-popular and most-active parties, but if I got it wrong, that's what "Other" is for.

Personally, I voted "Other" because not a single one of the political parties I know of - not even those not on the list I linked to - is a very good match for my mixture of liberal and conservative views on both social and economic issues. There don't seem to be any centrist parties in America.

Thanks. I didn't realize there were two green parties. Today, the Green Party is the closest. Tomorrow, probably Socialist Party, or something else.

I pushed the democratic button. Once upon a time I liked to think of myself as an independent. And I still do, kinda. But as I said in chat last night, when push comes to shove I almost always vote democratic.
So, I figure I might as well call it as it is. Often for me it's a matter of being pragmatic in that I want my vote to actually keep the republicans out. Yes, maybe I have made a deal with the devil, but all in all, I haven't been sorry.

Interestingly, by republican standards, even though I really am on the left side of the party, I would be considered “far left”. But these days, just being a democrat is considered “far left” using their bullshit talking points. I'm an old style progressive (liberal) and proud of it.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

I am still looking for a decent party, as my views are usually to radical for most of them. I would say the Constitution Party if it were not for there overly-religious agenda.

The Republicans are not socially liberal enough for me, the Democrats too socially liberal. The Libertarians don't seem to have enough of a social concsious as far as I am concerned. The socialists, communist, and green parties are either too socialist or too communist........

We need a States Rights Party that does nothing but hack the Fed's way down, and return the powers to the states. I want a party that pushes states rights, a sunshine amendment, and a return to the intent of the constitution. I want a president who administrates and shuts up, and a Congress that legislates for the people instead of their party or pocketbooks. I want the National Guard ripped from the army and returned to their states. I want the laws written so the courts do not have to interpret, and the supreme court to interpret on intent.

I want the people of California to know that it is ok that they do not want me to smoke in their parks, but I do not want to see them reading porn on a city street in Kentucky. If the people of Denver want to roll blunts all-day long, I could give a shit what the people in Nevada have to say about it. As long as the people in Colorado stay in Colorado, and expect to be jailed in Nevada.

I want limited sufferage linked to civics certification.

For the obvious discrepencies to the Constitution in my wants, I want these things through amendment, and only through amendment; not legislation built to circumvent it.

I wnat speak-soft, big-stick foreign policy. I do not want so many damn foreign intrests.
But... want, want, want...... That and 2.00 get's me a Starbucks to fuel my discontent. I want an armed forces that is heavey on technology and boots sitting at home training, training, training.

Peace
Joe

I agree. You flunked my test, though, because there is no such word as "sufferage." To where do you wish to be deported?

Just kidding. Seriously, I thought about that as well, but I suppose everyone would have a different test in mind.

Oh. And Dave, I would like to know more about the "Rebulican" party, while I'm picking on people for absolutely no reason.

I will vote for the party and candidate(s) that will rid the country of this....:

.... and all of the underhanded knavery that it and it's fellow travelers stand for!

I voted "Other." I am fed up with the whole scene. If there were a viable third party that would abide by the Constitution as intended by the founding fathers, I would shitcan my Independent status and join it.

But alas, as it stands, the only party capable of taking out the trash is the Democratic, so I must hold my nose, vote for them by default, and hope that they show a lot more spine than they have done for the last decade.

Dammit. Okay, whoever voted for the Rebulican Party, I hope you can live with voting for the Republican Party, instead.

It was a difficult decision, but I voted Green (even though I almost always vote Democratic). This little snippit from Wikipedia's entry on the "Green Party" helps explain why:
quote:
Despite this stereotype, some centrist "right" Greens follow more geo-libertarian views which emphasize natural capitalism — and shifting taxes away from value created by labor or service and charging instead for human consumption of the wealth created by the natural world. For example, the Independent Green Party of Virginia is fairly conservative on fiscal matters, while supporting the use of rail transportation to reduce traffic and pollution. That said, Greens may view the processes by which living beings compete for mates, homes, and food, ecology, and the cognitive and political sciences very differently. These differences tend to drive debate on ethics, formation of policy, and the public resolution of these differences in leadership races. There is no single Green Ethic.

It seems, much like organized Humanism, the Green Party is a lot like herding cats. While frustrating, that seems to be a very good sign, at least from a skeptic's point of view.

LOL.....

I think he meant the Rebullican party, and forgot an 'l', read "same bullshit, can do.... Not to be confused with the Republican Party that seems to have disappeared....

Peace,

With so many voting for the green party, I got a little curious about their manifest. I have to admit, I'm not very knowledgable of American parties, but politics is politics...

Anyway, seraching for their stance on Universal Healthcare I broswed the Green Party's manifest for info http://www.gp.org/platform/2004/socjustice.html#1000939
and found this:

4. We support the teaching of holistic health approaches and, as appropriate, the use of complementary and alternative therapies such as herbal medicines, homeopathy, acupuncture, and other healing approaches.

Yeah, well, the New Age is aggressively green. So it doesn't surprise me that the Green Party would want to woo the woo woo's, just as Republicans bend over backwards for the religious right.

I suspect that New Ager's are the most likely to actually vote for a green party candidate even if splitting the greenish democratic vote means a republican win.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.
